Conference Travel Grants
IUPUI Conference Travel Grant Proposals currently have no due date but may be submitted during business hours ( 8-5 pm ) on weekdays when classes are in session during a semester or summer session. Grants will be made within two months of submission. Apply early enough to plan your trip with the help of the UROP Program Assistant Carolyn Key.
Students who are giving papers at state or national meetings will be favored. However, students may apply for funds to travel to any conference in their discipline without giving a presentation. Students who do not plan to give a presentation may be permitted to travel to a conference if the benefit is deemed substantial.
Students may travel numerous times and may receive up to $1,000 total. Matches are not required. An applicant must be working with a faculty mentor who supports the student's research project. Domestic travel requires the approval of the faculty mentor. Foreign travel, including to Canada or Mexico, requires the mentor's approval and the approval of the UROP Director. Students traveling abroad must consult the IUPUI Office of International Affairs prior to travel.
Travel funds will not be distributed for travel that has already occurred. Students should apply by the deadline that precedes their trip by at least three weeks.
Research Project and Travel Grants
Students may include travel for research purposes in a Research Project and Travel Grant. For example, funds may be used for field work and data collection, visiting libraries and museums, or visiting laboratories or other sites for consultation. Students who travel abroad in conjunction with other IUPUI programs and who plan to carry out a research project while abroad should apply for this grant. This grant is for up to $1,000. A student may apply once a year twice for this grant, or once for $2,000 for oversearch travel for research.

Eligibility and Requirements
- All undergraduate students doing independent research with a faculty member at IUPUI are eligible to apply for a grant. Students who are not enrolled as IUPUI students during the academic year do not qualify for funds. Note that a faculty member may mentor more than one student.
- Students may hold a Student Research Grant for up to two years from the start of the grant and may request additional project funds if they have not exceeded $2000. Students may requests funds for more than one project.
- If the student leaves IUPUI or leaves the project with unspent funds, funds are returned to the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program Fund. Unspent travel funds are returned to the program.
- The student must be registered for at least one independent research credit each semester or summer session during the entire research grant period in which the student is engaged in a UROP-supported research project. If the students unit or school does not offer such a course the student must register for Honors H399. Students are not required to be signed up for research credits to hold a Conference Travel Grant but students must be in good standing at IUPUI.
- Students may hold other scholarships or stipends and research support concurrently with a grant but these other funds must be declared under Other Support and in the budget of the application. UROP is indifferent to whether or not a student receives additional compensation when working on a research project or whether or not UROP funds are supplemented by other grants. In some cases the student research stipend will be reduced by the amount of research stipends from other sources. Work study funds will not be considered as stipends. Stipends are considered income for tax purposes and in some cases UROP awards may reduce other financial aid.
