Students participating in any aspect of the IUPUI UROP are urged to prepare a Research Portfolio. The portfolio is a record of the student's research experience and accomplishments which would not be obvious to employers or admissions officers from an academic transcript alone.
The Research Portfolio is required to qualify for a transcript notation indicating completion of the IUPUI Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program. The Director, with concurrence of the IUPUI UROP Committee, certifies the student's right to the notation based on the portfolio. Upon approval of the portfolio the Committee will forward its recommendation for the notation to the IUPUI Registrar. The notation is awarded concurrent with the degree
Deadlines for Submission
This portfolio is to be presented to the IUPUI UROP Director by April 1 for May graduation , by July 1 for August graduation and by November 1 for December graduation in the semester in which the student expects to graduate.
Portfolio Contents
The portfolio must contain the following items to certify transcript notation:
- The written research project report. This may be a Senior Thesis in departments where this is required.
- Copies of journal publications (if any) authored by the student and abstracts (if any) submitted by the student to present his or her research project in an outside professional meeting or other approved event.
- A letter from the student's faculty mentor certifying that the student has attended an outside professional meeting or other event. There also should be information included describing the meeting or event, its sponsor, its location and its date.
- Evidence that the student has given or will give a presentation in the annual IUPUI Undergraduate Research Symposium. This evidence will include a copy of the abstract for the presentation and a certificate of participation, which will be awarded at the symposium. Copies of these certificates will be kept by the Committee in case they are lost by students.
- Transcript evidence that the student has completed five credit hours of independent research with a faculty mentor. The last faculty mentor of record must also provide a letter briefly verifying that the credits were earned for independent research.
- A description of sources of support, either internal or external, including UROP funds, for the research.
- Any other material the student or faculty mentor deems relevant to the student's research participation as an undergraduate may be included in the portfolio.
Portfolios should be submitted electronically where possible to
