IUPUI UROP Research Project and Travel Grants
1. All eligibility requirements are met
You have worked with a faculty mentor to prepare your proposal. The proposal should be written by the student.
You have not held an IUPUI UROP grant previously, or, if you have, have not exceeded your dollars limits ($2,500)
You will arrange to register for a formal research credit for each semester or summer session in which you hold a grant.
2. Proposal Cover Page is complete
3. Risk management check-offs indicate required compliance approvals.
Approvals are obtained by the faculty mentor. Financial disclosure with respect to any existing conflict of interest is made (consult faculty mentor). (.All university policies with respect to research must be followed. Thus students must provide the usual risk management assurances where appropriate (animal use, radiation safety, DNA protocols, human subjects) in accordance with university policies. No funds are released without risk management assurances where needed. UROP requires that research involving human subjects be approved through the IRB. 4. The cover page and the budget page are both signedby student and by faculty mentor.
5. Proposal abstract precedes the narrative and does not exceed 300 words.
6. Narrative is attached and does not exceed three single spaced typed pages and includes a clear statement of the problem or project objective the significance of the problem the research or project plan (this could include a time line) special conditions with respect to equipment, data collection, supplies, etc.
7. References are properly cited and properly indexed in the Literature References section.
8. Timeline for completion of project milestones, e.g., month by month.
9. A completed budget page in which all items are allowed by UROP rules. The total budget does not exceed $1,000 unless student proposes travel outside North America to collect data, in which case, the total budget does not exceed $2,000.
10. No computers are included in the budget.Ancillary equipment such as zip drives is allowed.
11. The budget page is complete
12. A budget explanation page is included and shows any previous or concurrent research awards and/or stipends
13. A letter of recommendation from the faculty mentor is included
14.The faculty mentor has described the degree of independence of the student with respect to the research project
15.
One additional faculty letter of recommendation is included, describing how well prepared student is to do research; the student’s background for this particular project; the student’s motivation to do this research; and where the student is in his/her career.
16. A Travel Supplement Form is included if any travel is included on proposal
17. Three copies plus one original of the proposal and all letters and other materials are included.
IUPUI UROP Conference Travel Grant Applications
1. Application type is checked.
2. The proposal cover page is completed and signed by both student and mentor
3. All blanks are filled in, all questions answered on the Travel Request Form
4. Paper abstract is included.
5. Evidence, if available, that paper has been accepted is included.
6. Other supporting documents included (meeting description, letter of invitation, etc.)
7. A brief outline of the research project, written by the student, is attached (one page)
8. A letter of recommendation from the faculty mentor is attached. This letter includes a description of the student's independent contribution to the research project.
9. Previous or concurrent travel awards are identified (source and amount).
10. Travel destination clearly indicated, dates of travel accurate, type of transportation specified
11. Total cost of travel is indicated, travel funds requested, and necessary additional funds identified (source and amount)
12. Purpose of travel clear.
13. Presentation title, if any, is given
14. Financial disclosure with respect to any existing conflict of interest is made (consult faculty mentor).
15. IRB and other risk management numbers are provided as required by university rules.
